Arrival Jaipur at 0000 hrs. The first stop of the Palace on
Wheels is Jaipur, one of the most well planned cities of the
world of its time.
This capital city of Rajasthan, popularly known as the Pink
City was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, in 1727 A.D.
To explore the city, an air-conditioned coach takes you to Hawa
Mahal /the Palace of Winds. This is followed by a visit to Amber
Fort , eight kms away, where rides on caparisoned elephants
add to the ambience. After lunch at a Palace Hotel, you are
off to the City Palace , home of the erstwhile royal family.
Right across the road from the palace is the Jantar Mantar,
the largest observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh II. After dinner
and a cultural programme at Palace Hotel, the coach takes you
back to the Palace on Wheels. Departure for Jaisalmer is at
1730 hrs. Day

Arrive Jaisalmer at 0615 hrs. Jaisalmer lies in the heart of
the Thar desert, founded by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 A.D. Here the
yellow sandstone Jaisalmer Fort , is an imposing sight, towering
magnificently over the city. The Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli
and Salim Singh-ki-haveli are fine examples of the stone carver's
skill. After lunch on board, go for an exciting camel ride on
the sand dunes of Sam, before sipping a refreshing cup of tea.
Enjoy the dinner and the cultural programmes at Sam Sand dunes
/ Hotel Moomal and depart for Jodhpur at 23.30 hrs.

Next morning the Palace-on-Wheels is in Jodhpur at 0800 hrs
- a city ringed by a high stone wall with seven gates and several
bastions. This second largest city of Rajasthan, founded by
Rao Jodha in 1459 A.D. is known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh
Fort. The grand palaces within - Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool
Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples
of architectural excellence.
Near the fort complex lies Jaswant Thada and a group of royal
cenotaphs made of white marble.After lunch at Umaid Bhawan Palace,
return to the Palace on Wheels. Departure for Sawai Madhopur
at 1530 hrs.

One can almost sense a life of the wilderness, as the Palace
on Wheels arrives in Sawai Madhopur at 0400 hrs - a city named
after its founder, Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I.
After breakfast, a visit is arranged to the Ranthambhor National
Park, where in are located the ruins of a 10th century fort.
The park, covering an area of 392 sq kms is home to more than
300 species of birds. The tiger, hyena, ratel, jackal and fox
are among those constituting the carnivorous population here.
Upon return to the Palace-on-Wheels, you leave for Chittaurgarh
at 11.00 hrs. you arrive Chittaurgarh at 15.30 hrs. The day
begins with a visit to the Chittaurgarh Fort, lauded in legends
of valour and chivalry. History has it that Bappa Rawal, the
founder of the Sisodia dynasty, conquered Chittaur was besieged
and plundered thrice, and the womenfolk performed "jauhar
", in a sacred fire to protect their honour everytime.Shop

Next morning you arrive Udaipur.
It was founded by Maharana Udai Singh of Mewar, after the Sisodia
dynasty was driven away by the Mughals in 1559 A.D.
Perhaps the two most beautiful sites of Udaipur are the dream
like marble palaces-the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jagmandir,
which appear to rise from the blue waters of Lake Pichola. After
lunch at Lake Palace Hotel, visit to the City Palace and Saheliyon
Ki Bari. After evening tea, departure for Bharatpur at 2000
hrs.

Early next morning, the Palace arrives in Bharatpur the capital
of Maharaja Suraj Mal at 0600 hrs. Pay a visit to the world
famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting
place for thousands of egrets, siberian cranes, migratory water
Fowl and other species of birds.
After breakfast, arrive at Fatehpur Sikri -the red sandstone
Mughal palacial complex. Within the enclosure is a mosque built
by the Mughal Emperor Akbar and dedicated to Sheikh Salim Chishti,
a muslim Sufi saint who blessed him with a son.
After lunch move on from the Red Fort and arrive at the Taj
Mahal , one of the seven wonders of the world. A pristine monument
of undying love, it was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory
of his beloved queen Mumataz Mahal.
Agra is known for its splendid marble inlay work like the pietra
dura work on the Taj, leather goods and jewellery. After dinner
on board departure for Delhi at 0800 hrs.

The grand odyssey begins in Mumbai, the city of dreams, the
city of stars - Bollywood, the commercial capital of India.
One can see it all in Mumbai. And once evening dawns, you're
all set to board The Deccan Odyssey for dinner and for the journey.
Day 02
You alight at the Bhoke Station from where you go to the Jaigad
Fort. The Fort's awesome pride and stance is sure to leave you
speechless. Travel next to Ganapatipule, a beach bathed in golden
sunshine and silver moonlight all for you to relish. And after
a sumptuous lunch here, head straight Ratnagiri, the Land of
Alphonso mangoes. Visit the Lokmanya Tilak Smarak, Ratnadurg
Fort and then you're back to the laps of luxury, The Deccan
Odyssey, for dinner and a quiet sleep.

03
The train chugs into the tip of the Konkan coast, Sindhudurg
Nagari Station. A luxury bus transfers you to Malvan Jetty.
From here a boat ride to the unconquered Ocean Fort of Sindhudurg.
The next stop, Tarkarli. A virgin beach at the confluence of
river Karli and Arabian Sea. A hard day at the sea is imminent,
so rest at the Tarkarli Beach Resort's 'Konkani' style cottages
is soothing. (Not to mention, the mouth-watering Konkani food
that'll leave you asking for more.) From here, move on to Tarkarli
Jetty for a romantic boat ride to Kalse Jetty. A kuxury bus
then takes you to Sawantwadi. The evening promises a royal meal
in the train, so keep yourself hungry.

04
Goa, the fabled land for many, is the next stop. Some of India's
finest golden sand beaches along with jungle-clad hills, imposing
ancient churches and elegant mansions dot this state. Start
off with Old Goa, as you walk amid the ruins of vast gardens
and old churches of Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral and
the Church of St. Assissi. Also on the cards is a walk through
Fontanhas, the Latin quarters at Panjim. Followed by a typical
Goan styled lunch, after which you are free to explore Goa on
your own. As the day ends, you can look forward a splendid dinner
on board The Deccan Odyssey.

05
Next morning the royal train pulls into Pune, the erstwhile
capital of the Marathas.
Start off with a visit to the Raja Kelkar Museum, a treasure
house enshrined with antiques of 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
Next stop, the magnificent Shaniwarwada built by the Peshwas
in 1732. And after a splendid lunch, visit the imposing Aga
Khan Palace. On to the world famous Rajneesh (Osho) Ashram next.
And finally, the David Sassoon Synagogue. Built by Sir David
Sassoon in 1867, this synagogue is believed to be one of the
largest and finest in the world. And finally, end this day with
a royal dinner, which is all hot and streaming on board The
Deccan Odyssey.

It's Aurangabad next morning. Get set to travel along the
rolling hills and picturesque ruins of the past. After a scrumptious
breakfast in the train, a luxury bus takes you to the majestic
fortrees of Daulatabad. An impregnable defense in its days,
it still stands tall and proud. Aurangabad, founded by Aurangzeb,
has scores of monuments, tombs and Buddhist caves. Visit the
world famous Ellora Caves. This World Heritage Site's 34 brilliantly
carved rock-cut temples represent Buddhist, Jain and Hindu
faiths. Back to Aurangabad for lunch with live cultural entertainment.
Also on the itinerary will be Bibi-Ka-Maqbara. And for the
perfect memorabilia, do spend some time shopping at Aurangabad. Day
07
Seventh day brings you to Jalgaon railway station. After a
royal breakfast in the train, board the MSRTC bus to surround
yourself by dramatic views of the Waghora Valley; the hideout
of the Ajanta Caves. Older than Ellora Caves, these caves
once lost to the world, were discovered accidentally by a
party of British officers on a hunting trip. Then a mouth-watering
lunch on board as you reach Nashik, from where you travel
to vineyards at Govardhan Park in the comforts of a luxury
A/C bus. On the way to the vineyard, visit Old Ghat (The Kumbh
Mela is held here once every 12 years) and see some great
views of the Gangapur Dam site. And get set for a lavish wining
and dining session at the vineyard.

Enjoy the breakfast on board as the sun rises over beautiful
Mumbai. You alight at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus after
a week-long dream journey. And as you finish this royal journey,
needless to mention an unforgettable one, you'll only wonder
